Hearts Still Beating

Your faraday-caged heart
is still finding ways
to write
electrocardiograph love letters
to this life,
across bright screens
in dark rooms.

There is poetry
in your pulse.
Your heart’s still beating,
still open,
still bleeding
answers to prayers
against flatlines
and statistics;
Against stigmas
and addiction.

Your heart
is a muscle
the size of your fists.
So put ’em up, baby.
Get ready.

You’re going to have to fight through this.
